A researcher wants to know if a placebo works as well as a performance enhancing drug (PED) in weight lifting. He gives a pill to each weight lifter in the experiment and tells them it will enhance their abilities. One group gets the PED and the other gets a placebo. He uses the number of curls a person can do in 30 sec as his dependent measure. Below are the scores of the two groups.

PED group: 34, 28, 27, 32, 33, 30, 38, 32, 30, 28, 34, 32

Placebo group: 27, 26, 23, 30, 25, 26, 27, 26, 27 (note unequal n)

1. Determine whether the placebo made a difference compared to the PED group?
