    Area of a rectangle is Length times width.

    The Width is given as X and the length is 2x+3

    Now you have x * 2x+3 = 230

    Multiplying x to 2x+3 = 2x^2 + 3x

    2x^2 + 3x = 230

    Subtract 230 from both sides:

    2x^2+3x-230 = 0

    Factor the polynomial:

    (x-10) (2x+23) = 0

    Solve for each x:

    x = 10 and X = - 11.5

    Since a side of a rectangle can't be a negative number x = 10.

    The width = x = 10 yards.

    The length = 2 (10) + 3 = 23 yards.
