    x^2-2x+5=0

    first, subtract 5 from both sides to look like:

    x^2-2x = - 5

    next divide - 2 on both sides to equal:

    x^2+x = - 5/-2

    x^2+x=2.5 or 2 1/2

    You can simplify this to:

    2x^2=2.5

    Then divide both sides by 2:

    x^2=2.5/2

    x^2=1.25

    finally we get take away the ^2 so we root the number on both sides and get (rounded):

    x=1.12
