    2x-y=6

    simplifying the second equation gives;

    x+2y=-2

    Multiplying equation II by 2 gives;

    2x+4y=-4

    2x-y=6

    Subtracting the equations;

    5y=-10

    y=-2

    replacing in first equation;

    2x+2=6

    2x=4

    x=2
