    She subtracted 3.4 on the left and added 3.40 on the right

    Step-by-step explanation:

    3.40 + 0.85 x = 5.27

    Subtract 3.40 from each side

    3.40 - 3.40 + 0.85 x = 5.27-3.40

    .85x = 5.27 - 3.40

    .85x = 1.87

    Divide by. 85

    .85x/.85 = 1.87/.85

    x = 2.2
