Solve the system of equations below using substitution. Show all your work on scratch paper. Then type your solution as an ordered pair.

    First I would move x and y on the same side so the new equations would be:

    y+x=7 and y - (-5x) = 1, then you need to subtract the second equation from the first one

    y+x=7

    -y - (5x) = 1, the y value would then be out of the equation leaving you with:

    6x=6 then you would divide so

    x=1

    Then you need to substitute that back into the first equation:

    y = (-1) + 7, simplify

    y=6 so the final answer is

    (1,6)
