Simplify - 2 (x + 4) + 5x + 10

    First distribute through the set of parentheses.

    When we distribute, we multiply the number outside

    times each of the terms located inside the set.

    So we have - 2 (x) + - 2 (4) or - 2x - 8.

    Now we have - 2x - 8 + 5x + 10.

    Combine like terms → your numbers and your "x" terms.

    -2x + 5x is 3x and - 8 + 10 is 2.

    So we have 3x + 2.

    3x + 2 cannot be simplified any further.
