    Answer: The no of child and adult are 355 and 170 respectively

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Let the no of tickets for child be x

    and the no of tickets for adult be y

    Given x+y=525 ... [1]

    19x+40y=13545 ... [2]

    Multiplying [1] by 19

    19x+19y=9975 ... [3]

    Subtracting [3] from [2]

    19x+40y-19x - 19y = 13545-9975

    21y=3570

    Dividing both sides by 21

    y=170

    Putting value of y in [1]

    x+170=525

    Subtracting 170 both sides

    x+170-170 = 525-170

    x=355

    No of child = 355

    No of adults = 170

    You need to set up 2 problems for this. Let's start with the # of tickets sold & variables.

    c = # of child tickets sold

    a = # of adult tickets sold

    c + a = 525

    Now we need to set up the equation for the money.

    c = # of child tickets sold

    a = # of adult tickets sold

    19c + 40a = 13,545

    Now put the two equations by each other.

    c + a = 525

    19c + 40a = 13,545

    Now I will solve for one of the variables.

    c + a = 525

    -a - a

    c = 525 - a

    Now I plug it into the other equation.

    19 (525) + 40a = 13,545

    Solve.

    9,975 + 40a = 13,545

    -9,975

    40a = 3,570 / 40

    a = 89.25

    89 rounded?

    then plug in a on the second equation

    c + 89 = 525

    -89 - 89

    c = 436

    so the answer is:

    Sold 89 adult tickets.

    Sold 436 kids tickets.
