    p = 1 and r = - 2

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Given the 2 equations

    6p - 4r = 14 → (1)

    p - 2r = 5 → (2)

    Multiplying (2) by - 6 and adding to (1) will eliminate the term in p

    - 6p + 12r = - 30 → (3)

    Add (1) and (3) term by term to eliminate p

    8r = - 16 (divide both sides by 8)

    r = - 2

    Substitute r = - 2 into either of the 2 equations and solve for p

    Substituting into (2)

    p - 2 ( - 2) = 5

    p + 4 = 5 (subtract 4 from both sides)

    p = 1
