The diagram below represents the sum of 1/4,1/4 and 1/4.

    The sum of 1/4, 1/4, and 1/4 is 3/4. If fractions have the same denominator (the bottom number) then you can just add the numerators (the top number) together and put it over the common denominator.

    1+1+1 = 3 and you put that over the 4 and get 3/4
