If cos θ = - 5/13 and sin θ < 0, what is tan θ?

    This angle will be in the third quadrant where only the tan is > 0.

    by pythagoras the other leg of the triangle formed will be 12 units long and this will be opposite the angle theta so the tan will be - 12/-5 = 12/5
