For example, if we have 5=5, and subtract 3 from both sides, we get 2=2, which is still correct. If we have x + 7 = x + 7, and we subtract 2, we get x + 5 = x + 5.

    With that said:

    -3x + y = 5 / if we're solving for y, add 3x to each side to isolate the y on the left side

    y = 5 + 3x, and that should be your answer
