    4 (5a-8) + 2a

    20a-32 + 2a

    22a-32

    if they are equivalent then they are equal

    22a-32=12a-6 and we can solve for a subtract 12 a from each side

    10 a - 32=-6 add 32 to each side

    10 a = 26 divide by 10

    a = 2.6
