The number of containers sold by Simeon overall = 120

    Step-by-step explanation:

Let is assume the containers sold by Simeon in first week = x

So, the the containers sold by Allegra in first week = x + 30% of x

    = x + 0.3 x = 1.3 x

    Now, in second week:

The containers sold by Simeon = 0

The containers sold by Allegra = 12

So, the total cookie container sold by Allegra = (1.3 x + 12)

Also, Allegra sells 40% more cookie containers than Simeon.

    ⇒Allegra's share = (Simeon's share) + 40% of (Simeon's share)

    ⇒Allegra's share = 1.4 x (Simeon's share)

    ⇒ (1.3 x + 12) = 1.4 (x + 0)

    ⇒ 1.3 x + 12 - 1.4 x = 0 or, 0.1 x = 12

    or, x = 120

    So, the total containers sold by Simeon = x + 0 = 120 + 0 = 120

Hence, the number of containers sold by Simeon overall = 120
