A California condor left its cliff-side nest and soared downwards at a rate of 16 meters per second. After 8 seconds, the bird soared upwards 71 meters to land on a ledge with an elevation of 1364 meters. What is the elevation of the condor's nest?

    16m/s * 8s = 128m Multiply out the time to get the total displacement from the descent.

    128m-71m = 57m Find the displacement from the descent to the ascent and then add that to 1364m to get your answer.
