Heat can be moved from one place to another by 3 methods: cunduction, which happends in solids, convection, which happends in fluids, and radiation. Conduction occurs when two objects are touching each other. Heat moves from the hot object to the cold object until the two objects are the same temperature. Convection happends when hotter areas of a liquid or gas rise to the colder areas. Both conduction and convection require some form of matter but radiation does not. Radiation does not rely on things in contact with a heat source and what is being heated. For example, we feel the sun everyday and it feels hot but we never touch it.
