In a recent poll of 2,000 households, 29% had pets. How many households did not have pets

    29% had pets, to find out how many didn't, we subtract 29% from 100%

    100 - 29 = 71

    To turn a percentage into a decimal (multiplier) we divide by 100

    71/100 = 0.71

    Finally, multiply 0.71 by the original amount

    0.71 x 2000 = 1420

    1420 households did not have pets
