A rate is when one unit of measure changes in terms of another. When you see the word "per" you know that you are dealing with rates. The first unit of measure listed is the dependent variable.

The second unit of measure is the independent variable. At times, these quantities are graphed on a coordinate grid. For each of the following rate examples say which unit will be on the x-axis and which unit will be on the y-axis.
