Multiply the first and last number (a and c) together.

24 = 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24 (1 * 24, 2 * 12, 3 * 8, 4 * 6)

2 and 12, and 4 and 6 can add or subtract to - 10. I will be using 2 and 12.

Now instead of this:

-4x² - 10x + 6

You can replace - 10x with:

-4x² + 2x - 12x + 6 (this is because the sum of 2x and - 12x is - 10x)
