    Answer-

The original fraction was greater than 1/2.

    Solution-

A whole number and a fraction are combined into one mixed number, so the mixed fractions are always greater than 1.

Dividing a faction by 1/2 is equal to multiplying 2.

As the fractions greater than 1/2 yield the product greater than 1, when multiplied with 2 or divided by 1/2. Then only we get the improper fraction or mixed numbers.

On the other hand, the fractions less than 1/2 yield the product less than 1, when multiplied with 2 or divided by 1/2.

∴ The original fraction must be greater than 1/2 in order to get a mixed number.
