A small tree was planted at a height of 9 feet. The tree has been planted for 14 months, and is now 53.8 feet tall. Which equation could be used to find x, the average number of feet the tree grew each month?

    The equation is:

    53.8 = 14x + 9

    If you want how much it grew each month we can solve by doing

    44.8 = 14x by subtracting 9 on both sides

    Then we can do

    44.8/14 = 14x/14

    To get

    x = 3.2
