The width of a rectangle is the length minus 2 units. The ares of the rectangle is 48 units. What is the width, in units, of the rectangle

    x (x - 4) = 12

    x2 - 4x = 12

    x2 - 4x - 12 = 0

    (x - 6) (x + 2) = 0

    x - 6 = 0

    x = 6

    If the length is 6, the width must be 2.
