If you want to round to the nearest thousand, find the thousands place then look to its neighbor to the right, the hundreds place. If the hundreds place is 5 or more, the thousands place goes up by 1. If it is 4 or less, it stays the same. In this case the hundreds place is a 6 so the thousands place goes up 1 and everything to the right becomes a zero.
