    Answer: 237.53 million

    Step-by-step explanation:

    y = a (1+r) ^x is the formula for exponential growth

    To find r, the rate, use the formula r = (y2-y1) / y1

    so (226-224) / 224 is roughly about 0.01

    y = a (1 + 0.01) ^x

    y = a (1.01) ^x

    x is the time that passed, so between 2001 and 2006 is 5.

    y = a (1.01) ^5

    a is the initial value, so we'll use the one from 2001 because that's was we got x from.

    y = 226 (1.01) ^5

    y = 226 (1.051)

    y = 237.53

    so in 2006, the population will be about 237.53 million.
