    x=2y-2

    x=y+3

    Substitute the second equation into the first

    y+3=2y-2

    solve for y

    y=5

    plug into original

    x=y+3=5+3=8 or x=2 (5) - 2=8

    Allentown got 8 ft of snow, Georgetown got 5 ft of snow.
