    add the - 6 to all parts of the equation to leave you with:

    -3y + 10 = 5y + 6

    then you will add - 3y, again, to all parts of the equation leaving you with:

    8y + 6 = 10

    subtract 6 from both sides:

    8y = 4

    divide each side by 8:

    your final answer should be

    y = 1/2 or 0.5
