A driver uses the metric system to calculate that a certain place is 1,000 kilometers away. However, the driver uses the U. S. system to calculate that his trailer truck travels 10 miles for every gallon of gasoline it contains. If the gas station attendant fills the trailer truck with 70 gallons of fuel, will the driver have enough fuel to reach his destination? Explain your answer. (Hint: 1 mile = 1.6 kilometers.)

    1 gallon = 10 miles = 16 km

    With 70 gallons of fuel, the driver can reach:

    70 · 16 = 1,120 km > 1,000 km

    The driver will have enough fuel to reach his destination.
