Hooke's law states that the distance that a spring is stretched by hanging object varies directly as the mass of the object. If the distance is 160 cm when the mass is 24 kg, what is the distance when the mass is 6 kg? (round answer to two decimal places)

    Explanation

    d ∝ m Inserting the constant of proportionality,

    d = km Where d = distance, k = constant and m = mass

    K = d/m

    = 160/24

    = 20/3

    The final equation becomes;

    d = 20/3 * m

    For m = 6 Kg;

    d = 20/3 * 6

    = 40.00 cm
