During a science experiment, Peter found the temperature of a certain liquid to be - a∘ Centigrade after he had raised the temperature by x degrees. Write an expression to represent the temperature of the liquid at the start of the experiment, before it was raised.

    The original temperature was 'x' degrees below '-a'. That's (-a - x), or - (a+x).
