They are asking for this number in the form of scientific notation. This means we need to move our decimal until we reach the format of 3.0. x 10 to the power of something.

If you count the number of decimal places you must move your decimal (it's invisible on the end of the number) you will know the power of 10.

The decimal needs to be moved 4 places to the left to reach 3.0 so the power of ten will be 4. (If our number was an amount less than zero, we would be moving our decimal to the right and the power would be negative.)

So 3.0 x 10^4 is our new format.
