The mean of 8 numbers is 12. Five of the numbers are 6, 8, 5, 10 and 28. The remaining 3 numbers are each equal to k. Find

(i) The sum of the 8 numbers

(ii) The value of k

    numbers averaged x Average of the numbers = Total of all of the numbers

    8 x 12 = 96

    (ii)

    6 + 8 + 5 + 10 + 28 + 3k = 8 x 12

    57 + 3k = 96

    3k = 39
