    Assuming that the meteor crater forms a hemisphere, the formula for the surface area of the crater would be 2 (pi) (radius^2). Set the crater equal to the formula for a hemisphere and substitute pi for 22/7 and you'd get 9687 = 2 (22/7) (radius^2). Do some quick magic on the calculator to simplify and you end up with about 60,889.71 = radius^2. Take the square root from both sides and you get 246.8 when rounded. That should be the length of the radius, and so to find the diameter, just multiply that by 2 to get 493.5.
