    I always recommend mathway for math because you plug in formula then it gives you the answer then if you sign up for it you can see how. The absolute value of a number is the distance of a number from zero on the number line. Absolute value is always positive, since a distance is non negative. Essentially, if you want the absolute value of a non negative number, it's just that number. and when is solved in the correct formula is 1 and - 1 and since it has to be positive the answer is 1
