    8 more that is 8+

    four times a number is 4*X

    is - 12: = - 12

    8+4*X=-12

    to solve this equation subtract 8 from both sides.

    8+4*X=-12

    -8 - 8

    4*X=-20

    divide by 4 on both sides.

    X=-5
