Simplify the following expression.

5 (x + y) + 3 (x - y)

    It could also be written as

    5x+5y+3x-3y when you merge the factors

    from here you could add like terms

    5x+3x+5y-3y

    8x+2y would be your final answer since x and y aren't like terms therefore it cannot be reduced further
