A rectangle has a perimeter of 58 inches. The length is one more than three times the width

13.) define variables

14.) write a system of equations that show the two distinct relationships between the length and width

15.) explain why you could not solve this problem/narrow down the actual length and width of this rectangle unless you knew the second relationship - that fact that the length was one more than three times the width

    13.)

    l=length

    w=width

    p=perimeter

    14.)

    p=2l+2w

    l=1+3w

    15.)

    58 in = 2 (1+3w) + 2w

    58 = 2+8w

    8w = 56

    w=7 in

    l=1+3 (7)

    l=22in
