    because 7 is in the thousands place and in order to round up the hundreds place would need to be a 5 or larger

    7, 207

    7 = thousands place

    2 = hundreds place

    0 = tens place

    7 = ones place

    You want to round to the nearest thousand, the 7 all the way on the left is the number you're looking for.

    Next, the number to the right of it, is it higher than 5 or lower than 5?

    Since the number on the right is lower than 5 (it's a 2 - in the hundred's place), you round down to 0. If it was higher than 5, you round the 7 in the thousands place to an 8.

    7.207 rounded to the nearest thousand is 7,000
