    Small cooler can hold = 6 gallons

    and big cooler can hold = 30 gallons

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Let the numbers of gallons hold by a small cooler is: x gallons

    and the number of gallons hold by a bigger cooler is: 5x gallons.

    (Since it was given that:

    The bigger cooler is 5 times as large as the smaller cooler)

    Also the total number of gallons of punch for a party is: 36 gallons

    Hence, we get:

    x+5x=36

    i. e. 6x=36

    On dividing both side by 6 we get:

    x=6

    Hence, the number of gallons hold by small cooler is: 6 gallons

    and number of gallons hold by big cooler is: 5*6=30 gallons

    David needs 36 gallons.

    So, 36/z (for now) the bigger cooler is 5x. However, I don't know what x is. So, the problem can't really be solved. I'm sorry.
