A polynomial is a sum of terms. A term is a number alone or a number multiplied by any number of variables. A linear equation in the x-y coordinate plane has the form Ax + by + C = 0. The expression on the left side is a polynomial, so a linear equation is considered to be a first-degree polynomial function.
