One minute after it is released, a hot-air balloon rises 100 feet. In each succeeding minute, the balloon rises only 50% as far as it rose in the previous minute. How far will the balloon rise in the five minute?

    1min: 100 ft

    2min: 100 (.5) = 50 - --> 100+50 = 150 ft

    3min: 50 (.5) = 25 - --> 150+25 = 175 ft

    4min: 25 (.5) = 12.5 - --> 175+12.5 = 187.5 ft

    5min: 12.5 (.5) = 6.25 - --> 187.5+6.25 = 193.75ft

    answer: 193.75 ft
