    First figure out the number of pints.

    1 gallon contains 8 pints

    4 gallons contains x

    Set up a proportion

    1/4 = 8/x Cross multiply

    1*x = 4*8

    x = 32 pints

    1 container is made of 2 pints

    x containers = 32 pints

    1/x = 2/32 Cross multiply

    2x = 32 Divide by 2

    x = 32/2

    x = 16 pints.
