What is the meaning of a negative rational number?

    A rational number, by definition, is a number formed as the ratio of two integers. For example: 3/4 is a rational number. So is 1/51.

    A negative rational number is precisely the same, except that we preface it with the negative sign. For example: - 3/4, - 1/51
