    -3x+9 = - 3 (2x+3) + 3 (x-4) + 1

    distribute

    -3x+9 = -6x-9+3x-12+1

    add like terms

    -3x+9 = - 3x-20

    add 3x to each side

    9 = - 20

    there are no solutions because 9 does not equal - 20
