    The number of student that chose lion = 2a = 2 * 39 = 78

    Step-by-step explanation:

    The total student that took part in the survey was 273. Therefore,

    Total number of student that took part in the survey = 273

    number of student that chose the tiger to be the new school mascot = a

    number of student that chose the bulldog to be the new school mascot = 4a

    number of student that chose the Lion to be the new school mascot = 2a

    Therefore,

    a + 4a + 2a = 273

    sum all the coefficient of a

    7a = 273

    divide both sides by 7

    a = 273/7

    a = 39

    The number of student that chose lion = 2a = 2 * 39 = 78
