A triangle has a side lengths of 3 centimeters, 5 centimeters, and 4 centimeters. Abe used converse of the Pythagorean Theorem to determine whether it is a right triangle.

3^2 + 5^2 = 4^2

9 + 25 = 16

34 ≠ 16

Abe concluded that it is not a right triangle. Is Abe correct?

    No, Abe is incorrect.

    If you don't know which side is the hypotenuse, you have to try every possibility.

    3^ + 4^ = 5^

    25 = 25

    The triangle is a right triangle. The side which is 5 cm long is the hypotenuse.
