    For example

    A translation of the function f (x) = x^2, one units upwards will result in g (x) = x^2 + 1.

    A translation of the function f (x) = x^2, one units downwards will result in g (x) = x^2 - 1.

    A translation of the function f (x) = x^2, one units to the left will result in g (x) = (x - 1) ^2.

    A translation of the function f (x) = x^2, one units to the right will result in g (x) = (x + 1) ^2.
