    Step 1: Solve whatever is in the parentheses / combine like terms within the parentheses

    Step 2: Distribute the Multiplication within the parentheses

    Step 3: Even out the equation by combining like terms on both sides (Using addition, subtraction, or/and division)

    Step 4: state the value for the variable

    Step 5: Plug the value for B back into the original equation to check your answer

    Step-by-step explanation:

    first, you look at combining like terms within the parentheses. but since you cant combine like terms because of the variable (you cant combine a regular 4 with a letter), you opt for distribution of the multiplication for both sides. so you multiply 4 to both B and the other 4, and you multiply 2 to B and 6 on the other side. Looks kinda like this but not quite: 4*b + 4*4 = 2*b + 2*6

    and you get 4b + 16 = 2b + 12

    Then subtract 4b from both sides.

    you get

    16 = - 2b + 12

    then you subtract 12 from both sides to even out the equation

    you get

    4 = - 2b

    Then divide - 2 from both sides and you end up with

    B = - 2

    You can put - 2 back into the original equation to check you answer

    so ... 4 ((-2) + 4) = 2 ((-2) + 6)

    8=8 so it is correct.
