Lorenzo is a painter. he recently painted a garage floor that was 10.5 ft by 12.8 ft.

It took him 2 1/4 hours to complete the job, ie. 2.25 hours

    Total area 10.5 x 12.8 = 134.4 sq ft

he charged his customer $66.25 for the job.

    He get $66.25 / 134.4 = $0.49 per sq ft

It takes 2.25 hrs to complete the job, in 1 hour he can paint 134.4 sq ft/2.25 = 59.7 sq ft

    A. write a unit rate to describe what area of a surface Lorenzo can paint each hour.

he paint 134.4 sq ft in 2.25 hrs he get $66.5

he paint 59.5 sq ft in 1 hrs he get $29.5

B how long will it take him to paint the basement walls?

two walls are 9 ft by 10.2 ft, and two walls are 9 ft by 6.7 ft.

    Total area = 2 (9 x 10.2) + 2 (6 x 6.7) = 304.2 sq ft

    Total time taken is 304.2 / 59.5 = 5.1 hours

His next job is painting the four walls of a basement with the following dimensions:

    explain your thinking.

    C. what will he charge for the time it takes to paint the basement?

    basement area = 10.2 x 6.7 = 68.34

time taken to do this = 68.34/59.5 = 1.2 hours

    Total charge to paint the basement = 1.2 x 29.5 = $35.4
