    The area of a parallelogram can be calculated using the formula

    Area = base * height

    If we substitute in our known numbers we get:

    49 2/5 = 5 1/5 (b)

    To solve this equation, we must divide both sides by 5 1/5. to get rid of the coefficient on the right side of the equation.

    9 1/2 = b

    Therefore, the base of the parallelogram shaped window is 9 1/2 feet.
