    Multiply 2nd equation by - 3 and add to first

    9x-3y=3

    -9x-24y=51+

    0x-27y=54

    -27y=54

    divide both sides by - 27

    y=-2

    sub back

    3x+8y=-17

    3x+8 (-2) = - 17

    3x-16=-17

    add 16 to both sides

    3x=-1

    divide 3

    x=-1/3

    (x, y)

    (-1/3,-2)
